Coyote Springs/Port Westward

Pending Grievances:
401K/Pension Plan – On behalf of the Bargaining Unit for millions of dollars lost due to Enron turning its stock into junk bond status.
Status:  Same information as below for PGE grievance.

Good of the Union:
Coyote Springs just recently finished outage. Port Westward and Coyote Springs both running as needed.

Deschutes Valley Water District

Pending Grievances:
07-01 Wrongful Termination – Was arbitrated March 5-6. Arbitrator should have an award by end of May.

Pacific Power & Light Generation

The Union and PP&L are in contract negotiations and we are working with the company on creating a new housing agreement for the hydros. The company just announced that they are going to purchase a 520 megawatt gas fired generation plant in Chehalis, Washington.

Portland General Electric Generation

Pending Grievances:
01-27, 28, 29  Gresham/ Oregon City/ PSC – For the Bargaining Unit. Irreparable harm due to millions of dollars lost in the pension/savings plan.
Status:  We lost our appeal and have appealed this again.

Good of the Union:
All generating units are running as needed. The next scheduled quarterly meeting is scheduled for June 7th starting at 9:00 am at the Union Hall. Please try to have all proposals for negotiations in to the Union Hall before that date.

North Unit Irrigation District

Good of the Union:
The Union is still meeting with management to work on the new housing agreement, new job requirements and qualifications for new employees that would include CDL, Hazmat, Spray and Aquatic permit requirements. I believe the district is now willing to sit down and talk with the Union instead of trying to force incumbent employees to acquire some of these certifications. We are trying to get additional pay for doing these extra things the District has asked of the employees. The Union has always told the district that they need to bargain the impact on the employees before they can make any changes.

TransAlta

Pending Grievances:
07-12  The Company is raising insurance premiums without first negotiating those increases with the Union.
Status: The arbitration was May 2nd. We should have a decision by the first part of August.

08-02 Vacation Scheduling. A FEO was denied vacation because of new rules management is trying to put in place.
Status:  The Company denied the grievance again at Step III. Waiting to hear back from the company on the Unions last offer.

08-04 Travel pay for going to a company meeting off site. The company is saying they don’t have to follow what is said in the agreement.
Status: The company changed their offer after the Step III meeting. They are now willing to broaden the parameters of travel pay. We told the company to follow the contract and pay as per what it says in the agreement. Waiting to hear back from the company.

08-05 A senior C&E Tech is requesting to come off the 24/7 schedule and be put on day shift.
Status:
Waiting for company to respond with Step III answer.

08-06  Unjust termination. Employee was terminated for dishonest behavior.
Status: Waiting for company’s Step III answer.

Good of the Union:
The annual outage will start on April 4th and run for 88 days. The work will consist of all the regular outage items but the main work will be to make the necessary changes to enable the unit to burn 100% import coal. The company is still continuing to hire alot of new employees.

Nothing new to report from Midstate Electrical Cooperative.
