Comcast
Workers
United
On March 12,
2008, the
IBEW
launched a
multi-state
campaign to
organize
Comcast
workers.
These
workers have
sought the
IBEW for
representation,
and we’ve
implemented
a plan to
obtain
representation
for these
workers.
IBEW
organizers
around the
country are
distributing
flyers,
advertising
a web site
dedicated to
the effort (
www.comcastworkers.com ),
and meeting
with Comcast
workers.
Washington
State and
parts of
Oregon have
been
targeted, so
all
organizers
have been
asked to
support this
endeavor.
However,
you—the
working
members—can
have the
most impact
on this
campaign.
What can you
do to help?
-
Honk
your
horn
when you
see a
Comcast
rig.
-
Take the
time to
talk
with
Comcast
workers
when you
see
them.
-
Distribute
IBEW
contact
information
for our
Local’s
staff.
-
Write a
letter
to the
editor
of your
local
newspaper
and
encourage
Comcast
to avoid
traditional
union-busting
activities.
-
Display
IBEW
insignia
on your
vehicle.
If you have
any
questions
about this
organizing
effort
and/or you
would like
to help,
contact
Marcy Putman
at

for more
information.

Administration
Arbitrator Award for Bare Hand Work with
BPA
On March 17, 2008 the parties were notified
of the Arbitrator’s
decision to award the dispute on Live Line
Bare Hand Work in the following manner:
1. The Administration may assign Linemen
to a (new) TLM crew to perform hot-line work
using bare-hand methods, provided the
establishment of such a crew (on a
competitive basis) will be filled strictly
by volunteers.
2.
That the qualifications, type of work to be
performed, training, equipment to be used,
work methods and safety requirements for the
newly established crew will be consistent
with the terms and conditions of the
Memorandum of Understanding previously
negotiated by the parties. No additional
rules or procedures were awarded beyond
those already established in the MOU.
3. That members of the crew who perform
the live-line work will receive an
additional hourly premium of 15% over the
employee’s basic hourly pay.
The parties agreed prior to a protocol that
involves IBEW and BPA to establish work
rules prior to any implementation. Local
125 is in the process of reviewing the
Arbitrator’s Award and will work with the
Administration to follow through with the
agreed upon protocol. Should you have any
interest in reading the Arbitrator’s Award
we ask that you contact this office for that
to be arranged. We do not intend to post
the entire award, but will make it available
individually to those interested.

the option of making a
one-time payment or set
